e-Social Science in the UK is a thriving community developing new technologies and methodologies for the social sciences.

The National Centre for e-Social Science (NCeSS) was established by the Economic and Social Research Council ( ESRC ) in 2004 as its contribution to the UK e-Science programme. The Centre has a distributed structure consisting of a number of major projects ('Nodes') responsible for pursuing the programme's research objectives. For the first five years, the development of the research programme and the coordination of the Nodes was overseen by the NCeSS Hub, based in Manchester.
