"English Identities" Landscape Archaeology
A three month collaboration between the Oxford eResearch Centre and the Institute of Archaeology both based at the University of Oxford and aims to scope the technical requirements of the ‘English Identities’ project.
England has unparalleled resources concerning prehistoric and early historic landscapes, many of which are now being re-created in electronic form. This project wishes to explore the long-term changes in the landscape of England and its artefactual traditions, and to demonstrate how, utilising web services to combine mapping data from the National Mapping Project by English Heritage with artifact records held by the Archaeology Data Service and other dispersed databases, in an on-line environment, new questions relating to landscape use can be posed and answered easily and efficiently.
