- The reading of textual artefacts in cuneiform studies (Assyriology), papyrology, epigraphy, palaeography, and mediaeval studies is at the core of the creation (discovery, invention) of new knowledge of past cultures and civilizations. The artefacts in themselves are devoid of meaning, and it is their interpretation and re-interpretation that contextualizes them and turns them into conveyors of knowledge.

Workshop on Smart Spaces

- Well-designed spaces can enhance the quality and effectiveness of our communications, especially when those spaces are supported by smart systems. This workshop is the third in a series that examines the potential impact of technology on communication in spaces ascribed as smart. The first two workshops were run as an e-Science Institute Theme, and focused mainly on the productive exploitation of smart meeting spaces. The third workshop is under the auspices of e-Research South, and will explore smarter systems for managing research, and research meetings in particular.
